Here is my regret for quitting monthly salary unprepared

Hey friends,

As I entered my hotel room at the Holiday Inn in Manchester Piccadilly yesterday, I was flooded with email notifications from my last post. My ardent followers were asking for what I promised in my previous post. I’ve promised to share my regrets for quitting my paid employment in protest of wrong workplace practice and without adequately preparing for the road ahead.

I was at the radio Africana in Manchester yesterday to add value to the brand of one of my clients. It was a fabulous radio awareness programme and today, I will be speaking as the guest speaker at a property talk show for Nigerians in Manchester.

However, I still have a big regret for leaving my job in protest last year. Is it the regular income I’m regretting or what?

In life, you can never be 100% ready to take the next step. Anything you plan to do will always have opposition, and most of the time, the resistance is within you. You want to pay off the debts, or finish sending the children to school before you start doing what will fulfil you? Financial security is a big deal. However, people who take the lead and dare to find what they are passionate about end up receiving the prize in life. Check it out; risk-takers are prize winners.

Your boss at work, the owner of the company you work for, the celebrities, are risk-takers ripening the rewards of leaving their comfort zone. In the long run, there is no fulfilment (comfort) in the comfort zone.

I was a celebrity employee with all my employers, and I beseech you to be one at work. A celebrity employee is an entrepreneur at work. He or She thinks and act as the owner of the business. She is not just collecting a salary, but she’s giving back to the employer and in the process adding value to herself. She is not focusing on things she cannot control but on things she can control and how to make that better.

Your work life is essential to your mental and fulfilment wellbeing. It is the core of your existence, and financial reward is not the most crucial thing in life. How you make your money is more important than the amount of money you are making. If you make money from what you don’t like doing, the money will buy your material comfort but not fulfilment. Fulfilment is key to having fun in life.

Idleness is not a substitute for you. Don’t avoid work even if you don’t like the one you are doing now. Find a way to do another thing as work is life. A man who inherited a 100years old clock from his grandfather unhooked the pendulum to relief the clock. The clock asked why do you remove my weight? The man replied, it is heavy, and I want to lighten your load. The old clock exclaimed, ‘what you don’t understand is, it is the weight (work) that keeps me going’!

I was a superstar at my last workplace. I volunteered my strengths to the team. I wr0te, spoke, coached proteges and influenced leaders. Everybody knows the brand ‘Truly Babs’. To some, he is an arrogant person. He won’t tolerate abusive languages even from the directors. To some, he is such an intelligent smart guy. To some, he is a threat. He is well connected and also has access to the board members. To some, though he is performing on his role, we must put a limitation on him. He can’t be intimidated and behave as if he’s not afraid to be sacked. To some, writing books and helping the youth was his offence. How could he dare to have authored books as a banker? Maybe he is not fully engaged, but what can we do to him? He is in marketing where figures don’t lie, and liar doesn’t figure. To be truthful, he is a performer and fearless speaker indeed.

I have not exhorted myself. That was my profile, and the visibility was so high that most time I became the object of attacks by unsecured leaders. A leader once accused me of talking too much, and today, I’m doing the talking for a purpose and for a living. I have practiced that while working by giving out my talent as additions to the key performance indicators freely. My idea of the workplace is a place where staff go the extra mile to express themselves by volunteering all they have, just as the United States of America embraced diversity and allowed citizens of other countries to excel and contribute. I can assure you, there is no traffic jam on the extra mile lane if you dare go the extra mile. Your fulfilment is in the extra mile.

I quit my salary job unplanned. The loan was in debit balance. However, I have the Psychological capital in me. I’m a leader and lived the leadership in me. Leaders know when to quit. I didn’t get carried away by the accolades. If you are being deceived, please don’t fool yourself.

So my regrets are…………

Before then, here are two of my secrets.

I will reveal the rest in a seminar for employees and new business owners planned for November 2019. It is a must-attend for bankers, ex-bankers and employees who plan to transit to business owners.

As a leader, I was a situational leader as an employee, and that reflects the approach I use mostly. I fondly remember how I used to call my subordinates their middle and unofficial names whenever they do something good. I extended that to my supervisors as well. Whenever, I call my supervisors their middle names, trust me, I do get whatever I am requesting for.

The Koko of the middle name secret is that it increases my bonds and sphere of influence. By the way, I met the Dbanj, the KOKO MASTER in Manchester yesterday. He is such a good guy, conversationally. Be simple always.

The middle name-calling helped me. One of my proteges, who taught me the marketing job told me a few months ago. ‘I have no doubt you will succeed. You have huge resources in you, and when I was told you resigned; I knew with time you will blossom’. See how the encourager is being encouraged.

The second secret, I always volunteered to do extra work for my supervisors if the extra work will add additional resources to me. In the process, I have volunteered to make presentations, to write and review information, coach non-performing colleagues and today, I’m better for the charity works of my past. There is a future in your past.

To keep it simple, while on your current role, see what is right in it. Keep developing the resources in you. I am going to teach you how to use the resources in you to help others and make money in November 2019. It is a seminar to be paid for, and you will be glad you attend. I will share how I made my salary and how I’m living my best life ever as an Itinerant worker with many Itineraries.

Here is my regret……How I wish I had quit my job earlier than I did.

Not a regret for you yet. Keep building your resources. Jokingly, I authored five books while in employment. I could have used the time in writing the books to gist away or allow the fear of criticism to stop me. Nothing is too powerful to stop you except you let it.

I’m not asking you to do insiders’ trading or things with conflict of interest but don’t abandon your passion for your income. Volunteer your love even if you are not being measured by it at work.

Read my book, take the lead to know more about how you can volunteer your passion.

I feel this is one of my best write-ups from Manchester today 24th of August. What do you think? share your comments with me and help me wish my firelighter-Akinsola Adio Olugbemi happy birthday. He paid for my first JAMB exams and sent me to school. He convinced me to drop law for accountancy saying ‘ the accountants in Berger Paints Plc are enjoying’ Alas, he was a casual worker earning N15 per week when he took responsibility for me. God Bless Kinsol Baba.

Until I read from me again, I’m Truly Babs; Truly Your Coach.
