Tribute to Oloto Taiwo Hassan-two craziest things my friend did before he died.

If you are wondering why I went silent for a month, you are reading the reason now. Exactly, one month ago, the world lost of the generous gentlemen. I was in Abeokuta at the Positive Growth Africa’s conference for the executive members of the Great Achievers’ club when I saw a missed call on my phone.

I focused on delivering my presentation, building up the next generation without the knowledge of the demise of Oloto Taiwo Hassan, a friend who had been there for me and many others in his lifetime. He was there when I founded the Great Achievers’ Club 20years ago.

Before his untimely death on 12th October 2019, Taiwo did many great things. The greatest things we could do is to impact the lives of others positively. I will share with you two of the craziest things my friend did before he died.

  1. It was in 1998. We were both preparing for our ICAN professional examinations. He was to attempt the ATS 3 stage and I was at the final PE3 stage. We were strugglers trying to be the best in the midst of cash shortages. Taiwo needs N500 to complete his examination fee of N3000. I had N1000 looking for N3000 to pay my fee. What Taiwo did was to surrender the money in his hand to me. He said, Jide, you are at the final stage and I still have a long way to go. If you sit for the exam and pass, then one of us is through and things will be better. That was how I was able to collect the examination form, sat for it and passed to become a chartered accountant.

If you are thinking his action is just one-off for his dear friend and roommate, read the second thing he did…..

2. Around 2014 or so, he was driving to his house at night. He got to a bus stop seeing people with a damaged car. He stopped his car to help. He couldn’t fix the car with the people numbering six. He advised that the damaged car should be locked and all the six people join him in his car to avert being robbed at the junction. You will think he was only giving them a ride. Alas, my friend got to the turning to his house. He stopped. He stepped out of his car and hand over his car key to one of the six people. He said ‘since you guys are more than me, I will take a motorbike home from this bus stop, Please use my car to get home safely. Here is my mobile contact for you to call me to tell me where I can come to collect my car tomorrow’.  What a good deed and risk you exclaim!

When he got home, one of his neighbours asked what will he do if his car was not returned? He said, then I will continue my life without a car. Have I not been living when I don’t have a car?

That was just two of what my friend, Late Hassan Taiwo Oloto did in his lifetime. If you had met him on October 11 2019, a day to his demise, you will also have something good to tell about him.

His life was a selfless lesson for us. What we do for ourselves is not as important as what we do to advance others. I will miss my friend. I can only pray for the repose of his soul and for all he left behind. He came, he saw and he conquered. he had touched so many lives and God will reward him.

If you are touched by his good deeds, why not do something for someone who cannot repay you today. Join our effort to raise N1m for Nkechi Njoku of the Pacelli School for the Blind, Surulere. Send your token to PGA Account in Polaris Bank. Account Number 1771733756. Taiwo Oloto would have been part of this drive if he’s alive.

Rest in Peace, Taiwo Hassan Oloto.

Taiwo Oloto, this is a tribute from me on behalf of all your friends and all the people you have touched with your gentle and peaceful heart. Rest on my good friend.

Good night Taiwo Oloto.

Truly Babs
